Stephanie Barry

ASSISTANT VICE cHANCELLOR FOR ALUMNI AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, UC SAN DIEGO

Steph Barry, a UC San Diego alumna and global business executive, has been appointed Assistant Vice Chancellor of Alumni and Community Engagement, effective Jan. 29. Barry joins the campus Advancement team following her 19-year tenure at WD-40 Company, where she most recently served as Vice President for Strategic Projects. Headquartered in San Diego, WD-40 Company is a global organization that currently markets its products in 188 countries worldwide.

As vice president, Barry reported directly to the CEO of WD-40, leading a global project of significant (over $200 million) impact to the business. Her extensive leadership experience also includes service as Vice President-Asia, in a role focused on driving growth and profitability of the Asia region, overseeing more than 20 countries, one regional office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and one wholly owned subsidiary in Shanghai, China.

Barry graduated from UC San Diego in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She also holds a master’s degree in international business from the University of San Diego.


Gloria Negrete

Director of Planning and Strategic Initiatives, Basement relations & advancement

Gloria directs strategic initiatives to advance opportunities and departmental goals. Her experience in higher education embodies work in directing programs, project management, corporate relations, business development, fundraising and advising. She has experience working in public relations, publishing, nonprofits and startups. In a former life, she taught university-level comparative world literature, research writing and communications courses. She has published literary works, holds a graduate degree from San Diego State University and is passionate about innovation.  

 


Silvia Mah

Curriculum design and Strategy

Dr. Mah is a premier advocate for empowering women­owned businesses on a global level by promoting, nurturing, and investing in socially relevant new ventures that allow women to excel around the world. Through her work, Dr. Mah has identified challenges unique to female entrepreneurs. She holds a Ph.D. in Marine Molecular Biology from UC San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography, an M.B.A. from UC San Diego Rady School of Management, and a B.S. in Biology with Honors from Pepperdine University. She is currently CEO of Hera Labs and a Founding Partner of Hera Fund. Dr. Mah is originally from Caracas, Venezuela, and currently resides in San Diego with her husband and three kids. Family is most important to Dr. Mah, and she advocates for a healthy integration of work and life.

Kemi Talabi

Basement Coordinator

Kemi manages The Basement, a comprehensive student-centric entrepreneurial and professional development program. She facilitates activities to enhance the relationship between UCSD, student groups and alumni volunteers. Kemi holds a Master of Education in Learning Systems Technology from University of Arkansas at Little Rock and she completed her undergraduate degree in Communication at Michigan State University.
