Amy Jo Kim started her tech career as a neuroscientist-turned programmer with a degree in experimental psychology. With a knack for building and tuning systems, she became a UX designer and began using her skills in multiplayer social gaming.

As part of the early design team for Rock Band, The Sims, Ultima Online, eBay, Netflix, and Happify, she’s learned from the inside out what it takes to create an innovative genre-defining hit. ABOUT THE INNOVATOR SERIES:
Designed to connect UC San Diego alumni entrepreneurs and innovators with entrepreneurial-minded students and community, The Basement Innovator Series brings accomplished entrepreneurs and change makers to campus to share their story.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Adam “Ace” Moyer is the founder and CEO of Knockaround, a sunglasses company based in San Diego, California. With $500 in savings, at the age of 23, Moyer started Knockaround while pursuing his graduate degree. What started as a tiny, one-man garage operation has grown into a multi-million dollar brand.

Merging the classic East Coast prep style of his Virginia upbringing, his interest in design and fashion, and a love for the perpetually sunny, laid-back lifestyle of Southern California, Moyer created a sunglasses line that is simultaneously practical and stylish.

Knockaround has been featured in a number of well-known media outlets, including The Today Show, US Weekly, and Complex Magazine. Jim Moore, Creative Director of GQ, called Knockaround “our new favorite brand” in the July 2014 issue of the magazine. These days, a growing number of celebrities— Snoop Dogg, Natalie Portman, Matthew McConaughey, and Jessica Alba, to name a few— are being spotted in Knockaround Sunglasses.

Moyer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, with Highest Distinction, from the University of Virginia and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of California, San Diego. He has never taken a business class in his life.
