Designed to connect UC San Diego alumni entrepreneurs and innovators with entrepreneurial-minded students and community, The Basement Innovator Series brings accomplished entrepreneurs and change makers to campus to share their story.

Amy Jo Kim started her tech career as a neuroscientist-turned programmer with a degree in experimental psychology. With a knack for building and tuning systems, she became a UX designer and began using her skills in multiplayer social gaming.

As part of the early design team for Rock Band, The Sims, Ultima Online, eBay, Netflix, and Happify, she’s learned from the inside out what it takes to create an innovative genre-defining hit. Now she’s bringing her insights to entrepreneurs and innovators around the world through Game Thinking, a step-by-step system for improving your product experience based on design techniques from hit games.

The Basement is UC San Diego's campus-wide innovation and entrepreneurial hub dedicated to supporting all students. Alumni, postdocs, faculty, staff and community members can also connect with The Basement through its various open access event programs. In alignment with UC San Diego's innovation, entrepreneurial and change maker focus, The Basement provides creative innovation space, mentorship, entrepreneurship programming centered on experiential learning, and innovation resources.  The Basement launched in 2015 with the support of Jeff and Kim Belk '83, Forecast Ventures, Aryeh Bourkoff '95, LionTree LLC, and Mark Suster '91 of Upfront Ventures.
